April 29, 2011: A new IMAP mail server release today will enable users to enjoy Push Email capability in their email clients like Outlook or Smartphones like iPhone. Emails will be pushed to user's email clients and Smartphones that have been setup with IMAP settings within minutes of reaching the mail server. This feature is commonly known as IDLE.
If you currently use IMAP on your iPhone or Droid phones, we suggest that you switch to ActiveSync rather than continue using IMAP. With ActiveSync, you can also enjoy over-the-air syncing of calendar and contacts, in addition to email. ActiveSync settings for various Smartphones can be found here.
If your email client or Smartphone were configured with IMAP prior to April 28, 2011, all emails will be re-fetched from the mail servers. It will take roughly 60 minutes to re-fetch roughly 10,000 average-sized emails over a broadband connection. If your email client or Smartphone is hanging for whatever reason, we recommend that you delete the old IMAP account, close the client or restart the Smartphone, and then recreate the IMAP account.
